Apple Tree

It’s that time again…the school year is fast approaching and The Salvation Army here in Nashville is already in high gear with our 5th annual Apple Tree Program.  Launched during the summer of 2007, The Apple Tree has been providing school supplies and uniforms to children in need via incredible and generous folks like you!

Our “Apple Angels” are currently children that reside within our Transitional Housing program here at The Center of Hope and those who attend our Community Center within the Northeast Nashville community.  Ranging in ages from Kindergarten all the way through high school, we gather their information including school uniform colors, sizes along with shoe needs and a list of the necessary school supplies for their grade.

Once we collect this info, we make it available to you via our Facebook page, this blog and our website!  You just message us back, let us know who you wish to adopt and we’ll provide you with the details pertaining to deadlines for that child and drop off information.

I have had the privilege of delivering school supplies to various families at their home and nothing is more heartwarming than to watch children quickly open up their bags and squeal with delight at their brightly colored backpacks and lunch boxes, their new pens and pencils and shiny folders.  Their eyes light up at the new polo shirts they receive and the pairs of khakis that they pull out next along with packages of socks and clean, fresh from the box sneakers.  There are so many families here in Nashville that can barely afford one pair of khakis and a polo shirt.  They share with me how they painstakingly keep them free from tears or damage and have to wash them every day so the child has something to wear.

If you are interested in adopting one of these angels, please let us know!  Email me at Amanda_Grieves@uss.salvationarmy.org
